Action, Line and What the Number Should Be

Action is relatively balanced on this game.  The line has moved from -3.5 to -4.  With Sagarin we get a number of Tennessee 9.81, indicating an underlay of as much as 6 points.  This tends to be quite favorable for the favorite when the number is 3/3.5/4 and not going under the 3.

The BetUS Betting Preview: Vols vs. Wildcats

BetUS host Gary Segars, and expert handicappers Kyle Hunter and Parker Fleming preview the College Football Week 9 game between Tennessee and Kentucky. They'll go over the best value college football odds available and betting trends and share their College Football expert predictions.

Segars says: "If you subscribe to the body blow theory, Tennesse can absolutely be in trouble.  They've gone through Texas A&M and Alabama the last two weeks.  Kentucky, coming off a bye week."

Tennessee is 13-3 Straight Up and Against The Spread versus Kentucky in their last sixteen meetings.

Tennessee has not been good on the road lately.  Kentucky, on the other hand, 6-1 Against The Spread in their last seven as a home dog.

"Recent trends would certainly favor Kentucky in this one," Segars believes.

More to Consider

Tennessee beat Kentucky two years ago but by just three points.  Last year was a 44-6 blowout at the hands of the Vols.  Tennessee has won four of the last five in this series dating back to 2018.  Two of those were wins by more than the current spread.

Peter Fiutak of College Football News notes that the Kentucky passing attack just hasn't clicked.

"No one has been able to get to 200 rushing yards on the Vol D that allows just 110 per game. Combine that with the occasional turnover problems - three against Missouri, multiple in three of the last five games - and there’s no margin for error.

"Tennessee might not be the offensive powerhouse of last year, but if the Joe Milton of the first half against Alabama shows up, all should be fine."

That reference is to Tennessee imploding in the second half after leading and dominating the first half against Alabama last week.  It was the Vols second loss.

The Kentucky defense is good. Georgia is the only team to run for more than four yards per pop against them so far this season.
