Cristiano
Ronaldo Tug of War
Continues...
The fight for
footballer Cristiano
Ronaldo continues as
Real Madrid
reportedly ups the
ante.
Real president Ramon
Calderon declared:
“In the end, the
player’s desire will
decide it.
“Something can be
gleaned from his
declarations. But we
need him to say
openly that he wants
to leave Manchester
United to play for
Real Madrid.”
UEFA president
Michel Platini
BACKED Real in the
on-going war last
night, declaring: “I
can understand why
Real would love to
have him.”
Ronaldo is not among
the top five highest
paid footballers
despite being
arguably "the best
in the world"
currently.
In fact, he ranks
8th behind five
other England
players and two from
outside the UK -
Ricardo Kaka of AC
Milan and Ronaldinho
of FC Barcelona,
respectively.
Real have apparently
set the
£70million-rated
winger a £140,000-a-
week pay limit in
addition to
promising him a
staggering £25m
windfall from
commercial
activities and image
rights over the next
two years.
The deal would
mirror the one
negotiated by David
Beckham when he left
United for Madrid
five years ago, the
News of the World
reports.
Ronaldo, who is on
vacation in
Sardinia, was

While Ronaldo's
current club,
Manchester United,
has balked at Real's
attempts to snatch
the young player,
the UEFA president,
Michel Platini, has
stunned Manchester
United by claiming
Real Madrid's
pursuit of Cristiano
Ronaldo was 'normal'
behaviour.
The Daily Mail
reports that Platini
provoked
more controversy by
effectively turning
a blind eye to
Madrid's tactics,
which United believe
has unsettled their
player.
'Every club in the
world would love to
have Ronaldo,' he
said. 'It's part of
the system we have
today, that players
move from club to
club.
Sir Alex Ferguson of
Man United has
stated that "Cristiano
Ronaldo will be sold
over my dead body."
Ferguson is
convinced that,
given the chance to
sit down and explain
the situation to
Ronaldo, he can
persuade the player
to stay, according
to the
Sunday Mirror.
That paper reports
that United will
offer as an
incentive the
opportunity to
review Ronaldo's
contract if he is
prepared to commit
beyond one more year
and sign a new
long-term deal. His
current contract
expires in June
2012.
