Cristiano
Ronaldo Can't Stop
Germany Advancing to
Semi-Finals of Euro
2008
Cristiano Ronaldo
and Portugal were
slightly favored to
win the Euro 2008
heading into the
first of this week's
quarter-finals,
however, it was
Bastian
Schweinsteiger who
stole the show to
book Germany's place
in the Euro 2008
semi-finals and dump
Portugal out.
The final score was
Germany 3-2.
Bayern Munich star
Schweinsteiger
scored one and set
up two more - for
Miroslav Klose and
Michael Ballack - to
render Nuno Gomes'
effort at the end of
the first half and
substitute Helder
Postiga's goal
towards full-time
little more than
consolations.
The result sees
Germany, who only
clinched their spot
in the
quarter-finals with
a 1-0 win over
Austria on Monday,
advance to a
last-four clash with
either Croatia or
Turkey next
Wednesday.
Portugal had been
listed with 4.5/1
odds of winning the
Euro 2008.
Germany had odds of
5/1 at
Sportingbet
on Thursday
afternoon.
Germany's Bastian
Schweinsteiger
scored the first
goal and set up two
more as his team
beat Portugal.
Two goals in four
minutes midway
through the first
half from
Schweinsteiger and
Miroslav Klose put
them on top and
captain Michael
Ballack gave them a
3-1 lead just past
the hour.
A side note to this
game involved
Portuguese coach
Luiz Felipe
Scolari's whose
five-year reign
heading up the club
comes to an end
while there is much
speculation as to
where Manchester
United's Cristiano
Ronaldo will end up
next season.
Real Madrid has made
a lucrative payment
offer to the young
football stud.
