Lifelong Republican Doyle Brunson Will Not be Voting for John McCain

Gambling911.com's Jenny Woo had an opportunity to sit down and speak with poker legend Doyle Brunson (see Part One of her interview here).  And Doyle - a lifelong Republican from Texas - has dropped a bombshell - He won't be voting for John McCain.

Jenny:  Is this Texan voting Republican or Democrat?

Doyle:  Well I’m a life long Republican……but I think I’m probably going to vote Democrat this year, because of the way that they ran the internet gaming bill through.  I think that maybe the Democrats will be a little bit more lenient with the online gambling.  To tell you the truth I really don’t like any of the candidates, it’s the first that I can ever remember that I don’t have a favorite.  But I have my reservations about Obama and I’ve got my concerns about McCain because he’s up in years and definitely an American hero but I think his stance on gambling is not good.

Jenny:  Which candidate do you see being best for this industry and do you see a day when online poker will be regulated in the United States.

Doyle:  Well I think Obama is best for the industry.  And I do think online poker is going to be regulated in the United States.  I think it’s just got to happen.  It’s a big source of revenue for the country and I don’t see how they can keep people from the amendment, freedom of doing what you want to do.  I don’t see how they can prosecute anybody for playing.  They’ve made it a little tougher to get money on and off the sites, but I think they’ll stop that.

Jenny:  Tell our readers about your involvement with Leonardo DiCaprio and the 11th hour Action.

Doyle:  Leo was kind of a friend of mine, I met him through a mutual friend and we hung out a few times and I liked him.  He’s a fun kid and when I say “kid”, I mean I’ve never saw anybody change like he changed in the last two or three years.  He went from being a kid to a man didn’t he?  But anyway, so I got to be friends with him and he was talking about the environment and everything and I was kind of interested in it too.  So he said, “come down to the villas here and let me give you my presentation.”  I said “ok.”  And we went down and he told me his vision with this documentary.  He said, “we’re trying to raise some money” and I said immediately, “I’m in.”  I pulled a check out and wrote it to him and he said “I’ve been to a lot of meetings, but I’ve never been to one like this.”  And so that’s what I did and that’s how I got involved.  I think that’s going to be on the major network here on t.v.

Jenny:  Well actually it is.  I was searching for a movie on my On Demand and noticed that “The 11th Hour” was on the list of movies.  That’s one of the movies that’s on my “need to watch” list.

Doyle:  Oh it is?  I haven’t seen it either.  What kind of movies do you watch?

Jenny:  I watch everything.  But I’ve been really disappointed with the scary movies that have been out lately.  You know, “I gotta close my eyes screaming and having nightmares” scary movie.  But I’m actually looking forward in seeing the movie “The Happening”.  But I love all movies whether it’s a love story, comedy, etc.

Doyle:  Have you seen Jennifer Tilly in “Bound”?  Cause you gotta see that.  It’s an older movie.  But she’s in that with Gina Gershon and there are some hot scenes in that.  Hahaha

Jenny:  Hahaha.  No I haven’t.  I will definitely have to check that one out.

Jenny:  Have you heard any juicy gossip at the WSOP this year?

Doyle:  Haha.  I think Shannon is dating her dance partner from “Dancing with the Stars”.

Jenny:  Yeah but that’s old news.  Come on Doyle give me something better.

Doyle:  I’ve been so busy I have hardly been out.

Jenny:  Well the next time I talk to you then you’ll have to give me some juicy gossip.  Deal?

Doyle:  Haha.  Alright I’ll snoop around.

Jenny:  And do you see anything happening this year that will separate the WSOP from any other years?

Doyle:  Only the final table delay, I think that’s going to be really controversial, so I think it’s going to get a lot of publicity.   I think it’s actually good, I hate to say it, but I’ve got mixed feelings about it.   Overall I think it’s going to be good.
