No DraftKings Super Bowl 50 Contests

Gambling911.com has been receiving a number of inquiries as to whether DraftKings and FanDuel will be offering any Super Bowl 50 contests.

The reason for this: Current federal law stipulates that at least two events must be offered in order for fantasy sports contests to be legal and this includes Daily Fantasy Sports.

Our own Thomas Somach last year reported that some DFS sites were getting creative in order to overcome this stipulation.

Daily Fantasy Sports site ScoreStreak.com, now out of business, found a way to combine the Super Bowl with action from other sports such as the NBA.  It’s called multi-sports or “mash-up”.  Many online bookmakers offer a similar concept in the form of multi-sport parlays.

Another DFS site, Maximum Fantasy Sports, featured squares pools, which are based on the ubiquitous Super Bowl pools that flood offices and factories in the days before the game.

"Members can create their own pools and we will take care of generating the grids, providing the scoring and highlighting the winners," Maximum Fantasy Sports co-founder Bill Parsons told Somach. "There are a few different configuration options on how winners are determined. There is the score, using the last digit only. There is the reverse of the score. There is touching the square of each score, and so on.

"The configuration also determines if a person holds the same numbers throughout the game or if we randomize and assign numbers for each quarter. Of course, because of the wording of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, we cannot collect and distribute funds. Each pool takes responsibility for these tasks."
