Germany         +500

Germany played very well in the 2016 EURO Championships. If not for Gomez getting hurt, Germany may have beaten France for a trip to the finals against Portugal and Christiano Ronaldo. What’s even better about Germany for the 2018 FIFA World Cup is that Germany’s under-23 team fought like mad against Brazil and Neymar at Rio for the gold medal.

Bookies and per head agents should take care that pros don’t jump all over Germany at +500. Setting max betting limits and promoting or marketing other teams by talking about value could temper enthusiasm on the defending champs.

Brazil              +800

Brazil did win the gold medal for men’s soccer at the 2016 Rio Olympics. But it wasn’t exactly a big win for the Brazilians. Although winning gold was nice, Brazil had some trouble even though, without a doubt, they had the best player on the pitch in every match.

Could Brazil improve enough to win FIFA World Cup 2018? The guess here is that a lot of casual bettors are going to be on Brazil at +800. It’s doubtful that pro soccer bettors back Brazil after their showing in 2014.

Spain              +900

Spain underperformed horribly at the 2016 EURO Championships. They played a terrible match against Italy even though they were the favorites. The Spanish soccer program appears to be on a downward spiral after dominating Europe for so long.

It’s hard to see soccer bettors jumping on them at the 9 to 1 odds. But online bookies should still be aware. Who knows?  Maybe, Spain comes back with some firepower in the next couple of years. Maybe, a player or two establishes himself as one of the best on the pitch in La Liga or in the Premier League. That’s not likely, but it could happen.

Italy                +1300

Italy was fantastic when losing in the EURO Championship semifinals to France. The Italians weren’t expected to play well. They did in almost every match. Italy should only build on their 2016 EURO success.

Pap per head agents and online bookies should expect Italy to be the underdog bettors’ choice to take the World Cup in Russia in 2018.
