Government Waste: Taxpayers Paid for Gambling Monkeys, Rabbit Massages

The rabbit massages were part of a study to figure out whether massage can help recovery times after strenuous exercise.

The monkey gambling lessons were part of a National Science Foundation’s academics program study of some kind, for which the details were not immediately disclosed.

Oklahoma Republican Senator Tom Coburn’s investigators also found scientists putting mountain lions, monkeys, rats and cows on treadmills to study their changes in health.

“Only someone with too much of someone else’s money and not enough accountability for how it was being spent could come up [with] some of the zany projects the government paid for this year,” Coburn said upon releasing the report.

As if that were not bad enough, taxpayers ended up forking over a cool $387,000 for the two-year study just to determine that other studies were correct in their previous findings whereby massages do seem to help rabbits recover from stress.

Coburn also discovered that hundreds of employees terminated for misconduct are still being paid tens of millions of dollars in salary.
