Legal to Play Daily Fantasy Sports, DraftKings, FanDuel in Oklahoma

At least one state says it is legal to play on Daily Fantasy Sports sites the likes of DraftKings, FanDuel and DFS white label software provider Star Fantasy Leagues.  That would be Oklahoma.

The industry is hopeful that the vast majority of U.S. states will mirror the sentiment shared by Oklahoma State Senator Earl Garrison and not that of New York State’s Attorney General, who is fighting in Court to keep DFS companies from operating in his state.

“I have not heard any talk about bans or regulations at the capitol,” said Garrison, D–Muskogee. “What few people I’ve talked to have said they think [regulation] might be a bit of a reach. The legal challenges started in New York, so maybe they don’t think of it as an overreach of government.”

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman began cracking down on DraftKings and FanDuel after it was revealed that an employee of DraftKings may have had access to insider information used to win a large sum of money at FanDuel.  Schneiderman also contends that Daily Fantasy Sports are in reality another form of illegal online gambling.  A judge is set to make his ruling within the next two weeks.

“There are already so many regulations out there,” Garrison said. “But I believe that if there is enough impropriety, then there will be regulation. People will come forward and ask that these sites be monitored more closely. Unless people have complaints, or we know of cheating or that they are loading it one way or the other, then we should not try to create a problem.”
