2009 Belmont Stakes Betting Odds

2009 Belmont Stakes betting odds have been released by SBG Global Wednesday following the announced post positions.

The -140 favorite, Mine That Bird, drew the number 7 post position.

Odds on the Kentucky Derby winner online were not necessarily the most appealing when compared to the official odds, but SBG Global compensates for that with terrific free cash bonuses that total around 125 percent of funds deposited with the 10 year old wagering firm

The second favorite, Charitable Man, would pay better odds at SBG Global - $325 for every $100 bet compared to $300 at Belmont.

Charitable Man, who missed the Derby and the Preakness but won the Peter Pan Stakes at Belmont drew the No. 6 post, and will be ridden by Alan Garcia, winner of last year's Belmont with 38-1 long shot Da' Tara.

"That makes Charitable Man one to consider placing a bet on for sure," observed Don Shapiro of Gambling911.com.

Dunkirk pays $300 at SBG Global.  Other contenders include:  Mr. Hot Stuff paying a generous $1800 for every $100 bet and Chocolate Candy paying $1000 for every $100 bet (these were the same odds released by Belmont).

All eyes will be on Mine That Bird and his rider, Calvin Borel, however.

Borel guided Mine That Bird to a breathtaking last-to-first run along the rail to win the Derby by 6 3/4 lengths on May 2, and the gelding finished a diminishing length behind the filly in the Preakness under Mike Smith with another come-from-behind run two weeks later.

In the Belmont, Mine That Bird may be closer to the leaders because the early pace usually is not as fast as in shorter races.

"That's what we're hoping for," Woolley said at the post position draw. "With his running style, we're going to have to let him run his race. When you start slowing the fractions down, if you let him run his same race, he's going to move way on up."

"If we can just be within 10 or 12 lengths of them, I feel comfortable he'll have enough kick left."

Payton O'Brien is hopeful that the Belmont Stakes enjoys greater success for Gambling911.com sponsors than the Preakness race held three weeks ago.  It was the first "marquee" betting event that turned into a bit of a disaster for the website.

"The Preakness failed to perform for our sponsors compared to past highly touted events," O'Brien observed.

While SBG Global recorded a substantial number of signups for the Kentucky Derby earlier in May via Gambling911, The Preakness failed to deliver.

"The signs are good early on that people will be betting on the Belmont Stakes," says O'Brien.  Traditionally this race has provided the least number of traffic numbers of the Triple Crown, however.
