At -160, Nyquist value has come down somewhat in light of Saturday’s forecast calling for rain and a muddy track.  Can the favorite to win this year’s Preakness Stakes run in the mud?

The answer is a resounding YES because he did just that in the Kentucky Derby two weeks ago.  A heavy rain shower had hit Churchill Downs a half hour prior to the big race two Saturday’s ago making for a fast muddy track.

The LA Times writes of Nyqvist:

Nyquist has handled everything that has been thrown at him — trouble throughout the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, the home-course advantage for Mohaymen in the Florida Derby, off tracks, fast fractions and late-charging horses.

"He looks fantastic," O'Neill told reporters in Baltimore. "He's a horse that gives off such positive vibes. He still continues to talk to us in his own way, and he's doing really well."

The shorter distance and mud do tend to favor Exaggerator more but Nyquist has beaten him in four races to date.
