Cliffs of Moher

Cliffs of Moher was seeing around 45% of the betting action.

Aides O'Brien, who has saddled five previous winners of the race, said: "We were a little bit worried with him going to Chester as he had a very soft run the first time and won very easily on his second run as a two-year-old.

"We were just hoping that we'd be able to get a run into him and find that he could go to the Derby.

"He was a little bit slowly away (at Chester) and Ryan got him into a good position fairly quick.

"He was a little bit green on the bend and into the straight and picked up really well in the last half a furlong.

"He's a horse that always showed plenty of pace, so we weren't even sure about going up to a mile and a half, but he galloped out well to the line at Chester."

Eminent Win Eminent?

"All three have plenty to recommend them," Betfair said of the entrants with the shortest odds.  Eminent "should be the same price" as his rivals.

"It's a big responsibility and a privilege having him, but that is what it is all about, that is what you work towards - having a horse that has got a chance in the Derby," trainer Martyn Meade said of Eminent.

"At this stage, it is just another horse race and I have got to get him there in good nick to do himself justice. After that, the realisation of what it's all about might just kick in.

"It's a big thing and I am sure the nerves will kick in, as so many things can go wrong. When we get Jim (Crowley) on board and get him out of the parade ring, then I can relax.

"There is a huge hype about the Frankel factor. While there are lots of them about and lots of good ones, it would be quite nice to have the first one to win a British Classic."

Sporting Life Preview

Cracksman won his trial well enough and proved that Epsom holds no terrors but he is very lightly raced for a Derby hopeful and there are lingering doubts about his stamina though he still looks best of the five John Gosden-trainer entries. Frankie rides and was on board Khalidi when he beat Salouen in the Fielden Stakes at Newmarket though that form doesn't look strong enough. Eminent had no luck in the 2000 Guineas and is another Frankel colt with stamina to prove, but no such concerns exist for the Galileo colt CLIFFS OF MOHER who can build on his workmanlike victory in the Dee Stakes to give Aidan O’Brien his sixth victory in this race. Ryan Moore's presence in the saddle suggests he's the preferred of the Ballydoyle battalions ahead of leading Godolphin hope Best Solution, who landed the Lingfield Derby Trial and has Group winning form on the board. Permian was a surprise winner of the Dante, after which he was supplemented for this, and is a decent each way prospect, as is Chester Vase winner Venice Beach who has been improving quietly with each outing.
