Full Tilt Poker Takeover of PokerPages.com Leads to Google Disaster

Full Tilt Poker took over what they probably believed to be an excellent SEO-entrenched vehicle, PokerPages.com.  While the purchase reportedly took place over a year ago, PokerPages has remained untouched during that time….and probably with good reason.

For years, the undisputed world’s biggest database of poker players and results has remained a fixture in Google search.  Type in a player’s name with the word “profile” and nine out of ten times, PokerPages.com would appear atop the search listings.

One would have thought Full Tilt Poker’s strategy here might be to stick their banners exclusively on every page of the site.

Wrong!

Instead they opted to simply eliminate all pages and replace with the Full Tilt Poker home page.

Sure we understand the consolidation of PokerPages database into that of the Global Poker Index, but has anyone ever heard of “archiving”?

It gets worse.

Type “PokerPages” into Google search (minus the .com) and what pops up?

CardPlayer.com.

Type “Poker Player Profiles” into Google search and, again, CardPlayer.com ranks at the top.

Global Poker Index?  It does not even rank.

PokerPages.com founder Gary Carson passed away last year.
