Shulman Blasts Schmidt Over 9/11 Remark

Card Player boss Barry Shulman has blasted one of his bloggers who compared Black Friday to 9/11, Gambling911.com can reveal in a world exclusive report!

Shulman, owner of Card Player magazine and CardPlayer.com, blasted poker pro Dusty "Leatherass" Schmidt for making the comparison in a blog posted on CardPlayer.com last Thursday.

In an exclusive interview with Gambling911.com over the weekend, Shulman called Schmidt's remarks "indefensible" and "immature."

Schmidt, a longtime poker pro who is a regular blogger on CardPlayer.com, was blogging about online poker room America's Cardroom and wrote: "I was amazed to learn that they have a $250K guaranteed event on the first anniversary of Black Friday. April 15--NEVER FORGET! I say that like it is 9/11, since it kinda was in our world."

The remark sparked outrage all over the Internet, as people both within and outside of the poker industry expressed disgust and anger at someone comparing Black Friday, the day last year when the U.S. government shut down several online poker rooms, with 9/11, the worst terrorist attack in U.S. history.

Gambling911.com on Saturday contacted Shulman, who is currently in the midst of a three-month Asian-Pacific luxury cruise aboard the cruise ship Crystal Serenity, to get his reaction to Schmidt's remarks and see if he agreed or disagreed that Black Friday and 9/11 are comparable.

Shulman, who had just visited eastern Russia and was crossing the Pacific Ocean to Alaska, told Gambling911.com exclusively: "Dusty’s statement is utterly indefensible. To even think about comparing 9/11 to anything regarding poker seems like a perspective that only one who is very immature could espouse. CardPlayer.com bloggers do not necessarily represent our views."

Kudos to Shulman, who is essentially Schmidt's boss at CardPlayer.com, for calling him out publicly for making such a stupid comment.

Many bosses would close ranks and protect their employees when they did something so dumb, while other bosses would chastize such employees but do so in private.

That Shulman would not only call out Schmidt publicly but also criticize him so harshly for the remark shows that CardPlayer.com is a class organization and Shulman is a standup guy.

Here's hoping that Schmidt will learn something from his boss and apologize for his remark and maybe even make a donation to a 9/11 charity.
