Phil Ivey Divorce Settlement Fuels Nevada Supreme Court Arguments

CARSON CITY, Nev. — (Associated Press) - Poker pro Phil Ivey’s divorce case has the Nevada Supreme Court considering whether judges should oversee cases involving people from whom they’ve accepted campaign contributions.

The state high court heard 45 minutes of arguments Tuesday in Carson City on a lawsuit by Ivey’s ex-wife, Luciaetta Ivey, alleging decisions by a Family Court judge who handled the couple’s divorce were tainted by a $5,000 campaign donation.

It’s not dead yet, so says Texas Republican Congressman Joe Barton.  A measure to legalize online poker federally in the US could be voted on this month (July 2012).

Congressman John Tierney Vows to Stay in Race Following Gambling Allegations

Massachusetts Congressman John Tierney has said he will stay in the race to hold his House seat despite allegations he knew of an “illegal” offshore wagering site that employed his wife Patrice.

Tierney’s wife served as an accountant for her brothers betting company based out of Antigua.

Supreme Court Upholds Obamacare, Individual Mandate Despite Betting Trends

Though 75 percent were wagering on the Supreme Court scratching the most controversial portion of US President Barack Obama’s healthcare plan, the individual mandate, the high court instead opted to uphold the entire law as “Constitutional”.

Intrade.com, a leading prediction market, typically gets it right when coming down to the wire.  This turned out to be the exception.

Delaware Online Poker Roll Call Vote Could be Rescinded: ‘Sorry, I Meant to Vote No’

California Resurrecting Online Poker Bill From the Dead

With news that the state of Delaware is on the cusp of legalizing online poker following a measure sailing through the Senate on Wednesday, California is trying desperately to resurrect its own Web poker bill, one fraught with opposition.

Online Poker Bill Passes in Delaware Senate

Amendments attached to a bill that would expand gambling in the state of Delaware while offering online poker for residents of that state have been stricken.  The measure itself passed and is widely expected to be signed into law by Governor Markell shortly as his administration is heavily backing said legislation.  The Senate passed this bill by a vote of 14-6-1.  The bill was passed without amendments.

Online Poker to be Voted on Today in Delaware Senate

The online poker measure, House Bill 333, is part of more expansive gambling legislation strongly backed by the Markell administration, which includes offering casino gambling in additional locations as well as widening sports wagering options.

The Ramifications of Legalized Online Poker in Delaware Could Prove Significant

TRENTON, N.J. — Internet gambling in New Jersey has moved a step closer to reality.

California Dreaming: Internet Poker Bill Dead in the Water

Sen. Rod Wright yanked his Internet poker bill from a committee agenda just prior to its scheduled vote on Tuesday in the Senate Governmental Organization Committee. 

 

That bill has been sinking since it set sail requiring numerous amendments in an effort to please the state’s powerful Tribal casinos.

Cuomo Denies Influences Related to Gambling Expansion Efforts in New York

New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo has denied any outside influences from gambling interests when it comes to his efforts to expand gambling in that state. 

The New York Times on Tuesday published a report that The New York Gaming Association donated $2 million from gambling interests to a lobbying group created specifically to support Cuomo. 

"Mr. Cuomo’s support for expanded gambling, which he made a centerpiece of his State of the State address in January, had a profound impact," the newspaper noted.

Illinois Internet Poker Bill Amended Once Again

A measure to legalize Internet poker in the state of Illinois underwent a third revision this past Friday.

The bill would allow online poker to be run through the state lottery system with licenses handed out to one of 16 casinos and or racetrackes within the state.  Each property would have to pay $5 million per license.

Illinois Passes Gambling Expansion Bill: Major Ethical Shortcomings, Claims Governor

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- (Associated Press) - - Gov. Pat Quinn is blasting the Illinois House for passing a gambling expansion bill he says has "major ethical shortcomings."

Quinn said Wednesday the bill passed by a 69-47 vote does not provide the Illinois Gaming Board with "sufficient time to make critical licensing and regulatory decisions." He says the bill also fails to ensure clear oversight of the proposed Chicago casino.

Quinn said that as long as he is governor, he will not support a gambling bill that "falls well short of protecting the people of Illinois."
