Odds to win NFC East +220

Regular Season Wins Total OVER 9 -105

Regular Season Wins Total UNDER 9 -125

The oddsmakers believe that it is the Washington Redskins who will win the NFC East and that the Giants will be hard pressed to win OVER 8 games.  Somewhere in the mix is Dallas, which actually had slightly better odds than both teams of winning more than 8 regular season NFL games in 2013.

The Giants have shown they don’t have to win over 9 games to become Super Bowl champions.  Two years ago, they finished with a 9-7 record and still won the championship.

The real question lies with the defense as Mark Ross of Athlon Sports points out.

There has been some turnover on the roster, with several veterans departing through free agency or getting released outright. The offense is virtually intact with All-Pro wide receiver Victor Cruz signing a long-term contract and 2012 first-round pick David Wilson ready to assume a more prominent role. The defense lost quite a bit of experience, especially along the line, and needs both Jason Pierre-Paul and Justin Tuck to bounce back and be as disruptive as they were two seasons ago. The Giants finished tied for third in the NFL in sacks with 48 in 2011. That number dropped to just 33 (22nd) last season.

With Manning and the weapons he has in place, the Giants should score plenty of points. The key to their season will be how much better will the defense be? This unit had too many breakdowns in coverage last season that led to big plays, a reason why it finished second-to-last in the league in yards allowed (383.4 per game).

The experts are pretty unanimous when it comes to New York losing to Denver and Green Bay at home and Washington on the road.

There is a strong consensus among the experts that the Giants will also be challenged at home against Seattle and on the road in Philadelphia, Dallas and Chicago.

If we are to assume all of these scenarios, New York would simply push with a 9-7 record. But because it is difficult to imagine the Giants losing all four of those games where there is more of a leaning towards their opponent, the Giants OVER 9 is somewhat enticing, especially at the price offered.

The future bet we like more is New York winning the division.  Gambling911.com just feels they are the better team, especially with RGIII’s injury status in Washington.  The payout would be $200 for every $100 bet and that is just too hard to pass up.
