2009 Sugar Bowl betting odds have been released and the Alabama Crimson Tide have opened as a -10 ½ favorite at Bookmaker.com

Alabama has been paired against the Utah Utes for the 2009 Sugar Bowl, as was announced during tonight's BCS selection show. The game will kick off at 7 p.m. in New Orleans' Superdome and be televised by FOX beginning at 6:30 p.m on January 2.

The Crimson Tide (12-1) finished fourth in the final BCS standings after Saturday night's SEC title game loss to the Florida Gators, who will encounter Oklahoma in the Jan. 8 national title game in Miami.  The later announcement was pretty much made without much fanfare since most of the world was already aware these two teams would be meeting.

The Utes (12-0) are one of only two unbeatens left in the top division of college football (Boise State is the other). They were sixth in the final BCS standings and seventh in today's AP (media) and USA Today (coaches) polls.

This marks Alabama's first BCS bowl game since the Orange Bowl after the 1999 season.

"The economy may be in the gutter but online sportsbooks like Bookmaker.com are anticipating record bets on the upcoming Bowl games," said Payton O'Brien, Senior Editor of Gambling911.com.

Iowa State: Are They The Underdogs To Look For In March Madness?

They may be defined as “underdogs” or “Cinderella teams”, a term that is usually saved for teams that have little to no chance of winning even a single game during the NCAA Tournament. Teams like Loyola Marymount (1990), George Mason (2006), Davidson (2008), VCU (2011), UConn (2014), and Loyola Chicago (2018) come to mind when conversations turn toward the most surprising tournament runs in recent memory.
