The Calgary Flames opened at -1.5 odds heading into St. Louis Friday.  Calgary has 29 points vs. St. Louis at 22 points overall.  Calgary is 9-1 vs. St. Louis in the series between these two teams over the last 10 years.

The Flames open their 4 game road trip against a team they have completely dominated in recent times.  For gamblers, Calgary in many ways represents "easy money".

The Flames lost their last game in Dallas the other night. They failed to score at least three goals for the first time in four games, with only David Moss finding the back of the net in the second period. During their three-game winning streak, the Flames scored 13 times.

"We weren't quite as sharp as we have been lately," said Flames captain Jarome Iginla, whose six-game point streak ended. "Maybe that's part of not capitalizing on our scoring chances. I thought we could have had a few more."

The Blues have scored two goals or fewer in five of their last six, including a 4-0 loss Wednesday at Minnesota, and they have also gone 2-for-18 on the power play in the last five games.

"We had a few chances where we don't bury the puck," David Backes said.

Backup goalie Chris Mason got a second straight start but had his worst performance in last five appearances, giving up three goals -- two in a 2:20 span in the third period. He had allowed four goals over his previous five games, going 3-1-0, and is 2-2-1 with a 3.21 GAA versus Calgary.

The Calgary Flames defenseman Dion Phaneuf got flamed himself prior to the game in Dallas when Stars Sean Avery made some crude sexual remarks towards Phaneuf regarding his relationship with Avery's former girlfriend, actress Elisa Cuthbert.

On December 2, 2008; during the morning skate prior to the Stars' game against the Calgary Flames, Avery gathered a crowd of reporters and made the following comment about Phaneuf.

"I'm just going to say one thing. I'm really happy to be back in Calgary, I love Canada. I just wanted to comment on how, it's become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds. I don't know what that's about, but enjoy the game tonight."

Within hours of the remarks, the NHL suspended Avery indefinitely for "conduct detrimental to the league or game of hockey." Avery is scheduled to meet with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman on December 4 to discuss his comments. It is believed to be the first time in modern NHL history that a player has been disciplined for comments made off the ice.
