Daytona 500 Betting Preview

The Daytona 500 goes off on Sunday, 1:00 pm Eastern - Fox

The 2010 NASCAR odds season begins on Sunday with the Daytona 500 on Fox television.  The action should be better than ever as NASCAR has changed some rules that will give drivers more latitude.  It could also be that we see more wrecks which makes betting the Daytona 500 even more challenging.  The favorite to win this year's race is Kyle Busch but at 7-1 he is just one of many contenders.  Tony Stewart is the second choice in NASCAR odds at SBG Global at 7.5 to 1.

There are some reasons to like Kyle Busch on Sunday. Last year he dominated the race until getting caught up in an accident.  He nearly won at Daytona in July before Tony Stewart ran into him.  Before last season at Daytona, Kyle was second, fourth and first.  The question is how the new restrictor plates will affect the race. "It's easier to suck-up, but it's a lot easier to stall-out people, too." Kyle Busch said.

The pole sitter at Daytona on Sunday will be Mark Martin.  He had a great run to get the pole but he is not among the favorites to win the race. He has run the race 25 times and has yet to win.  He has said many times that he does not like Daytona or Talladega so even though he is on the pole it doesn't seem likely he will win.  "I'm going into it without looking at expectations," Martin said. "I'm just going into it with enthusiasm and excitement knowing that I have a race team that can do it. And we will go out there and we'll see how it shakes out."

If you are going to bet the Daytona 500 you may want to take a chance with a longshot or two.  There have already been a number of crashes in practice and in the preliminary races so anything could happen on Sunday.  If you do want to take a favorite then Kyle Busch and Tony Stewart are the logical choices.  Stewart is a three-time winner of the July event. He has nine top 10s in his last 12 Daytona starts. Another logical choice is Kurt Busch. He has five straight top 10 finishes at Daytona including four top-fives.

Matt Kenseth won last year's Daytona 500. The last repeat winner at Daytona was Sterling Marlin who won in 1994 and in 1995.  Three years ago Kevin Harvick was the race winner and he has attractive odds at 20-1 at SBG Global. He won the Bud Shootout and could become the first driver since Dale Jarrett to win the Shootout and the Daytona 500 in the same season.

Iowa State: Are They The Underdogs To Look For In March Madness?

They may be defined as “underdogs” or “Cinderella teams”, a term that is usually saved for teams that have little to no chance of winning even a single game during the NCAA Tournament. Teams like Loyola Marymount (1990), George Mason (2006), Davidson (2008), VCU (2011), UConn (2014), and Loyola Chicago (2018) come to mind when conversations turn toward the most surprising tournament runs in recent memory.
