Andre Berto (30-3, 23 KO’s)

There was a time when Berto might have given Mayweather a decent fight but that time seems past. Five years ago Berto was unbeaten but losses to Victor Ortiz, Robert Guerrero and Jesus Soto Karass exposed Berto as nothing more than just another fighter. Berto is simply a handpicked opponent for Mayweather to beat to end his career. Mayweather has tried to talk Berto up as a quality opponent. “He’s a tough competitor, a former world champion and every time he goes out there he gives 100 percent,” Mayweather said, “I chose him because he's very exciting and he’s going to push Floyd Mayweather to the limit. That's one thing I do know.”

Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KO’s)

Mayweather is coming off his mega-fight against Manny Pacquiao that was not nearly as competitive as people had hoped as Mayweather simply kept Pacquiao from hitting him that often. Now Mayweather will fight against Berto in what he said will be his last fight. It should be a lot easier than the Pacquiao fight and definitely easier than opponents like Amir Khan, Keith Thurman or Gennady Golovkin would have been.

Mayweather is saying that the fight against Berto will be his last and that he will retire at 49-0 and not try and break Marciano’s record. “This will be my last dance,” he said, “I’ve had a tremendous career. I’m older, wiser and my health is more important than anything ... all 48 fights have played a key, but number 48 was the most important.”

Fight Notes

Mayweather has tried to talk up Berto as a dangerous opponent but most people are not buying into the talk. “The only difference between Andre Berto and Pacquiao is you guys (media) put hype behind Pacquiao,” Mayweather said. “My job was to go out there and be Floyd Mayweather and be a chess player and that's what I did.

I found a way to win.” The reported pay-per-view price for Mayweather Jr. vs. Berto is said to be $79.95. This will be the 11th straight fight for Mayweather at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and the bout will be the last one for Mayweather in his six-fight contract with Showtime.
