Musket Man's odds to win the 2009 Kentucky Derby have been set at 20/1 (+2000) at SBG Global

Among his best achievements to date, Musket Man won the $300,000 Tampa Bay Derby last month.

The colt, a son of Yonaguska, was plucked out of the Keeneland September yearling sale for $15,000 from the Hidden Brook consignment, according to Bloodhorse.com. After an impressive two-length win in the April 4 Illinois Derby (gr. II), he's earned $572,600.

"We pinhook horses, and I bought this horse at Keeneland as a pinhook horse," Owner Vic Carlson said. "We're not big money players. That year, we were pinhooking six and we sold about half of them. We took him to the Maryland sale (Fasig-Tipton Midlantic) and couldn't get anything for him, so we decided to keep him."

T.O. Wenham of Doc's Sports had this to say about Musket Man and his odds to win the 2009 Kentucky Derby:

"This horse is flying somewhat under the radar, and that will help his price at the betting window. He won the Illinois Derby in his last start - the same race that produced Derby winner War Emblem in 2002. He's done everything asked of him, and he has improved with every start. He's making a step up in class, but he's good enough to handle it if he gets a break or two."

Don Shapiro of Gambling911.com:  "There is pretty solid value here with Musket Man to win this weekend's Derby.  Consider that this horse would pay out $2000 for every $100 bet, it's worth a small play along with a few other picks."

Shapiro recommends betting on Musket Man at SBG Global and playing a few other horses elsewhere or even wagering on a trifecta if that's your cup of tea.

Musket Man had the second post position in this weekend's Kentucky Derby.
