The American professional golfer had the second shortest odds of winning the 2009 US Open.

Having won three major championships and a total of 36 events on the PGA Tour. He has reached a career high world ranking of 2nd in multiple years. He is nicknamed "Lefty" for his left-handed swing, even though he is otherwise right-handed.

Mickelson has 43 professional wins under his belt and 36 in the PGA Tour.  Mickelson won the Masters in 2004 and 2006 and the PGA Championship in 2005.  He finished 2nd in four US Masters since 1999.

Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, who rarely have gone head-to-head on the weekend, could collide as they arrive at Augusta on top of their games, writes Jeff Shain of the Miami Herald:

For all of their career success -- a combined 103 PGA Tour wins, 17 of them majors -- Woods and Mickelson rarely have gone nose-to-nose down the stretch. With both coming to Augusta near top form, though, hopes are high for a rare collision course.

It wouldn't have the same electricity, of course, if they teed off an hour before the Sunday leaders. Then again, they probably would still draw a far larger crowd than whoever made the final pairing.

Truth be told, a Woods/Mickelson weekend draw has been as rare as the ski caps and gloves that adorned Augusta National in Tuesday's sub-40 wind chill.

Tiger Woods remained the favorite to win the 2009 US Open Golf Tournament with odds generally hovering around 2/1.

Iowa State: Are They The Underdogs To Look For In March Madness?

They may be defined as “underdogs” or “Cinderella teams”, a term that is usually saved for teams that have little to no chance of winning even a single game during the NCAA Tournament. Teams like Loyola Marymount (1990), George Mason (2006), Davidson (2008), VCU (2011), UConn (2014), and Loyola Chicago (2018) come to mind when conversations turn toward the most surprising tournament runs in recent memory.
