How Other Nations Are Determined
Are you wondering how other nations have decided to play in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar? Well, here’s how:
Asian Football Confederation. The Asian Football Confederation is, at present, in the second round of qualifying. The teams who will finish in the first place from eight groups will advance to the third round as well as four teams who will finish in second place. If the host country, Qatar, finishes in second place, then there will be five second-place teams included. Moreover, the third round has two groups of six teams, and the first-place teams in each group will proceed to the World Cup. On the 24th and 29th of March 2022, the two teams who are in the third-place will play home and away. And the winner of the match will advance to the June 2022 inter-confederation playoffs.
Confederation of African Football. In the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Africa will place five teams. Since the first round has already been played, the second round will not kick off until the 31st of May 2021 and will last until October 12, 2021. Although the groups for the second round have been picked, the dates have not been set. Nevertheless, ten prizewinners from the second round will be picked into five home and away games from the third round games. Additionally, the winners of these five home and away third-round ties will advance to Qatar.
South American Football Confederation. The ten teams will play nine home and away games. And the four top teams will play in the 2022 World Cup. What’s more, the no.5 team will go to the inter-confederation playoffs.
CONCACAF. The first round of qualifying for North and Central America will start in March, with set winners joining Jamaica, Honduras, Costa Rica, Mexico, and USMNT in the 2nd stage Octagonal. It will begin after the Gold Cup this year. In addition, out of eight teams, only four will be able to play for the World Cup. The fifth team will advance to the inter-confederation playoffs.
Oceania Football Confederation. In March 2022, eleven teams will battle for a single place in the inter-confederations playoffs. Soon to be drawn, the 11 teams will be divided into two groups for the first round. The teams from groups A and B will compete with each other once. And the two top teams from each group will advance to the semifinal round on August 30 and September 7, 2021. The last round will be a two-legged tie on October 4 and 12.
Union of European Football Associations. In the 2022 World Cup, 13 European nations secured spots. From March to November 2021, the home and away round-robin games will be held and the winners will proceed to the World Cup.
