2022 Early U.S. Open Betting Action: Serena Still Hot With Gamblers

The betting action on this year's U.S. Open should be substantial and leading the pack is Serena Williams, who recently announced her retirement from the sport.

Williams currently has 66-1 odds to take home another U.S. Open crown.

"We haven't seen Serena be competitive in a major in quite some, but people are still going to bet on her simply because of the name," Dave Mason, Brand Manager at BetOnline, said. "It's a lot like Tiger Woods in golf. The bettors are going to blindly back these legends no matter what form they're currently in. Serena's true odds should really be around 150-1, but we know we'll get action at half of that so no need to expose ourselves to greater liability."

Williams announced her intention to retire earlier this month.

"I’ve been reluctant to admit that I have to move on from playing tennis," she said.  "It’s like a taboo topic. It comes up, and I start to cry. I think the only person I’ve really gone there with is my therapist."

Williams has seen the fourth-most amount of money wagered on her ahead of the tourney behind: 1. Iga Swiatek 2. Maria Sakkari 3. Coco Gauff.

On the men's side, favorite Daniil Medvedev has taken the most money while Carlos Alcaraz and Nick Kyrgios are second and third, respectively.
