Houston was expected to have a strong defensive front and secondary but there are question marks regarding this year’s offense and its consistency. QB Clayton Tune threw for over 300 yards in three of his final six games in the 2021 regular season.
The Cougars were favored to win OVER 9 regular season games and their schedule offered an opportunity to win every game. Texas Tech was likely the biggest concern on this schedule.
The Red Raiders were coming in with 5.5 wins projected and a slight downturn entering 2022.
Texas Tech, had they been a home underdog, history would NOT have been in their favor. They are just 3-12-0 Straight Up as a home dog since 2017.
But the Red Raiders are a -4 point favorite overnight against Houston.
Gambling911.com had an early line of Cougars -1, but that was before the Sagarin update that has Texas Tech now favored -2.5.
We just don't see Texas Tech covering the -4 point line now, even though they could conceivably win. Take Houston here +4.
