AL Wild Card Odds are Tight; Cy Young and MVP Favorites
It looks like a three-team race for the two American League Wild Card spots.
Heading into Thursday's games, the Blue Jays, Red Sox and Yankees are all tied for the first three Wild Card positions.
The Yanks play the Triple-A Orioles later today (-235 favorites) and with a win, could temporarily vault into first place. New York and Boston begin a three-game series at Fenway tomorrow.
SportsBetting.ag has set odds on which teams will ultimately lock up the two Wild Card postseason berths.
AL Wild Card
Boston Red Sox -270
Toronto Blue Jays -210
New York Yankees -200
Oakland Athletics +2000
Seattle Mariners +2800
The MVP races are essentially decided, according to the oddsmakers, but Cy Young is a different story.
Robbie Ray, who started the season with the longest odds of any pitcher at 66-1, or +6600, is the current favorite for AL Cy Young, with just slightly better odds than Gerrit Cole, who was the preseason favorite.
The NL Cy Young race has been wide open since Jacob DeGrom went down. Max Scherzer (11-1 preseason odds) is the favorite while Corbin Burnes (20-1 preseason) is second.
For some context, Shohei Ohtani started the season with 12-1, or +1200, MVP odds. Tatis had 8-1 odds.
