Skins Coming Into This Game
This is a banged up team. Mark Sanchez will make his first start for the Redskins on Sunday as quarterback.
Alex Smith is out for the season and quite possibly done for his career following a gruesome leg injury suffered in Week 10.
Quarterback Colt McCoy (broken leg, three games) was a starter for the first time since 2014, and that ended after two games. He isn't yet ruled out for the season, but at the earliest, he'd return for the season finale. The Redskins -- players and coaches -- trusted and respected McCoy.
The Redskins placed more starters on injured reserve, including corner Quinton Dunbar. They also placed receiver Trey Quinn and guard Jonathan Cooper on IR. Dunbar was a mild surprise, though he has missed five games because of his shin injury. He tried to return twice, including on Thanksgiving Day but it worsened the more he played. Quinn played in three games this season, missing eight while on IR earlier this year. With Jamison Crowder healthy, Quinn would have been a backup -- but he would have played and helped.
Action and Line Movement
Washington opened as a -1 point favorite and was a +3.5 underdog across the board. Early action had the Giants seeing an astonishing 87%, as if they were vying for a Playoff spot.
