Preview
PITCHING MATCHUP: Brewers RH Corbin Burnes (2019: 1-5, 8.82 ERA) vs. Cubs RH Yu Darvish (2019: 6-8, 3.98)
Scheduled starter Brett Anderson went on the injured list with a blister, giving Burnes another chance to live up to the hype and erase last season's dismal memory. The 25-year-old regressed badly after posting a 2.61 ERA as a rookie in 2018, but teammate Jedd Gyorko termed him "pretty much unhittable" this summer. Burnes features a nasty slider that has the potential to rank among the best in the game.
Darvish has produced seven wins for Chicago in the first two seasons of a six-year, $126 million deal, but the hope is that he will carry the momentum from the second half of last year, when he allowed one run or less in seven of 13 starts. That stretch included a pair of five-inning outings versus the Brewers in which he allowed one run and eight hits. Christian Yelich is 4-for-11 with two homers off Darvish.
