Latest British Monarchy Odds: Prince Harry Memoir Shatters Sales Records

This past September, the passing of Queen Elizabeth stunned the world.  Nearly 80 percent of those living in Great Britain only knew of one queen in their lifetimes.

A the time, Prince Charles was a heavy favorite to be crowned the monarchy’s next leader, but not until 2023.  That of course happened much sooner.

BetOnline currently has odds on three nations referendums on Monarchy by 2025, including Canada and Australia.

Likewise, we could be seeing some novelty prop bet offerings in conjunction with the release of Price Harry's tell-all about himself

“Spare” exposes deeply personal details about Harry and family, including a number of the Royals.  Within a day of its release, the English language version sold more than 1.4 million copies in its first day of publication, a record.

"The first full day of sales of Spare represents the largest first-day sales total for any nonfiction book ever published by Penguin Random House, the world's largest trade publisher," Penguin Random House said.

Harry's 410-page memoir officially went on sale on Tuesday.  "Spare" has gone on sale in 16 languages worldwide.

Some of the more salacious details include a physical altercation with his older brother William, Harry losing his virginity at the age of 17 in a field behind a pub, and pretty shocking revelations that the young Royal killed over two dozen Taliban soldiers while serving in the British military.

From the Associated Press:

Harry says he felt neither satisfaction nor shame about his actions, and in the heat of battle regarded enemy combatants as pieces being removed from a chessboard, “Baddies eliminated before they could kill Goodies.”

Retired Col. Richard Kemp said it was “an error of judgment,” in commenting on these killings as it suggests the Brits view enemy fighters as "chess pieces" is “not the way the British Army trains people.”

“I think that sort of comment that doesn’t reflect reality is misleading and potentially valuable to those people who wish the British forces and British government harm,” he told the BBC.

"Spared" is due out January 10 2023 and we could see our friends at BetOnline offering odds on the Over/Under number of copies sold by month's end.

If Netflix is any indication, we might want to take the Over on any number posted.

The documentary "Harry & Meghan" attracted 2.4 million viewers for the first instalment, episode two had 1.5 million viewers on the first day, and the third part attracted 800,000.  While considered a hit for Netflix, there was certainly quite a decline in viewers over the three-part series, perhaps as it failed to live up to any prior hype.

It appears "Spared" won't disappoint.
