The State of Affairs so Far
Denver Broncos
As we mentioned, this will be game 4 for the Broncos in three weeks. Denver is in the third slot of the AFC West having gone 1-2.
Denver won their only game so far in week one when they defeated the Atlanta Falcons 14-10. After what seemed like a good start, the Broncos lost to the Seahawks 14-22, and again against the San Francisco 49ers on Monday, this time they lost 15-24.
LA Rams
The Rams are having a rough preseason, they have lost both games so far. They lost in week one against the Oakland Raiders 3-14, and then in week two, they lost at home against the Dallas Cowboys 10-14.
It seems the Rams have not gotten over the crushing loss against the Patriots in last season's Super Bowl.
In their defense, Los Angeles has decided to rest most of their starters for the second preseason in a row. Last year it paid off as they got to the Super Bowl, but this year there are growing concerns that the Rams might not be ready for the second trip in a row to the postseason. I think it's too early for critics to make such bold claims, but it unless they start showing a little more on the field the predictions might prove right.
Game Preview
The media has painted a grim outlook for the Broncos this season under their new head coach Vic Fangio.
Fangio is noted defense expert and was brought in to boost the failing Broncos defense. In this sport with such a high injury level, anything is possible. It could be that Denver goes 2-14 as NFL.com analyst Adam Rank predicted. However, Denver could easily be a sleeper team and end up having an excellent season just as Tony Romo stated on a radio show last week.
We will get a chance to see if Fangio's defensive strategy can hold because the Broncos will not have their rookie QB Drew Lock front and center. Lock will sit this second game of the week due to a bad sprain on his throwing hand that he sustained in Monday's game.
The Rams head coach Sean McVay is not expected to deviate from his strategy to leave most of his starters on the bench. In fact, after last week’s injury to Micah Kiser, he may decide to bench even more of his starters.
Prediction:
Even with Drew Lock sitting this one out, I still must side with the Broncos. The Rams are not trying to win any preseason games, so my money is on Denver.
