A proposed piece of legislation to allow sportsbook operations in-state failed to clear the 2019 session.
The appetite simply is not there and probably won't be over these next five years.
“We never advanced to get a single signature,” said Russell Lowery, a consultant for a group calling itself Californians for Sports Betting. “It started a conversation in California gaming on what is the right path forward, and those conversations will continue until they figure out the puzzle.”
