As this was going to press, North Carolina was expected to allow sportsbooks in two Cherokee-owned casinos.  The North Carolina bill does not allow state-based operators to offer mobile sports gambling.

Those looking to trek to these out-of-the-way casinos will at least be able to place bets on Duke, UNC and other North Carolina in-state schools.  A number of states prevent betting on their own schools, including New Jersey, the most successful of those that have allowed sports betting.  But unlike New Jersey, North Carolina lives and breathes college basketball. It would not be a stretch to suggest that every three bets placed on college basketball will be on one of the state schools that is playing on a particular day.

Duke was coming in at 9/1 odds to win the 2020 Men's NCAA College Basketball Championship.

The Tar Heels were coming in at 14/1 odds.
