New Jersey law does not permit betting on any of the state's college teams, this includes Seton Hall and Rutgers.  The state also prohibits offshore sportsbooks and/or affiliates from promoting wagering with these sites to those living or visiting New Jersey.  Some still do nonetheless, claiming sites like Bovada and 5Dimes, among others, are licensed in the jurisdiction where the betting firm is based.  The U.S. Supreme Court abolished sports betting prohibition in May 2018.

The Pirates are one of the most recognized teams in Men's College Basketball, having enjoyed a successful run and qualification in the 2019 NCAA Men's College Basketball Tournament.  They were eliminted in the first round.

It's interesting to note that Southern states like Mississippi resisted preventing gamblers from betting on their beloved SEC College Football teams.

Betting on most other sports is available on both apps and at three different locations on premise within the state (Meadowlands, Atlantic City and the Monmouth Race Track).  Most offshore betting sites are also inaccessible to New Jersey residents.
