College Football Week 10 Betting Preview (2018)
Tough Home Teams and Double-Digit Dogs
It's hard to believe we are already in week 10 of the 2018 College Football Season, but, it's true. After this, there are only three more weeks left, so we are fast approaching the home stretch, and teams are fighting to keep their rankings and earn a spot in one of the coveted College Bowls.
This week has a few interesting match-ups and many opportunities for bookie agents to make some nice profits, but, it all depends on the player's ability to pick winners and of oddsmakers to create interest and balance.
So what games are more likely to attract interest this weekend?
West Virginia vs. Texas
Austin will host an exciting Big 12 game on Saturday, as the Longhorns welcome the Mountaineers.
What is so interesting about this matchup is that even though West Virginia is ranked No. 12 and is coming from a thundering win against Baylor, and Texas dropped 9 spots after losing on the road against Oklahoma State to become the No. 15th, Texas is still considered a favorite in this game.
Texas is currently a 2-point favorite at www.AcePerHead.com, and the reason for this is their incredible winning record at home. The Longhorns are 15-8 ATS in their last 23 home games and 5-0 SU in their last 5 home games.
This matchup pairs the No.1 and No.3 defenses in the Big 12, this will make bettors favor the under in the game, which explains the low total of 58.
Prediction: Even though WV has outperformed Texas recently, I think the Longhorns will win and cover on Saturday thanks to the support of their fans who can intimidate any visiting team. Even though 58 seems a low number for an NCAA football game, I favor the under.
Alabama vs. LSU
If this is not the most watched game on Saturday, I will be shocked. No. 1 Alabama will pay a not so friendly visit to No. 3 LSU. For those who don't know or choose not to remember, the Crimson Tide has beaten the Tigers in their last seven meetings.
Alabama is coming off their bye week and has had plenty of time to map a strategy to win in Death Valley this weekend, but, things might not be so easy, this matchup against LSU is by far their toughest so far this season.
LSU is also coming off their bye week, and two back to back wins including the win against then Georgia, all this will serve to motivate the team to offer their fan base what they hope will be their third win in a row.
Even though Alabama has been virtually unstoppable this season, it still comes as a shock to see them as 14.5-point favorites against such a tough home team like LSU. I get that the last time the Tigers lost by double digits was two years ago against Alabama, but, still, the spread seems uncalled for to me.
Prediction: I do think Alabama will win another match against LSU to bring their record to 8-0. However, I don't believe they will cover the spread, although it could be close the average winning margin between these teams in their last 7 meetings has been 13.0. Still, I will have to side with the dog in this game.
