“I’m feeling a lot of pressure,” trainer Dale Romans said. He is the all-time winningest trainer at Churchill Downs. “I’m not usually in this situation where I feel pressure. I usually like being the underdog because there’s not much pressure.
“With this horse, there’s so much hype with him – well deserved, he’s very talented. I put the pressure on myself because of what I think of him.”
Dennis’ Moment sits near the top of the rankings with just nine weeks to go until the Kentucky Derby. This is one of the most important Kentucky Derby prep races.
“I think he’s ready to roll,” Romans said.
Co-owner Jason Loutsch said the horse has “something to prove” Saturday.
“He has to show up,” Loutsch said. “That’s the way we’re going into this: He has to step up and show that he belongs at the top of the class. We’re hoping he does that. You really don’t know what to expect after being off that long. We hope he’s matured and developed into what we think he is.”
