Hollywood Casino St. Louis to Host Televised HPT Event

St. Louis, MO - Hollywood Casino & Hotel St. Louis and Heartland Poker Tour (HPT) set a record for the largest poker tournament in Missouri history when they teamed up for an event earlier this year. The opening tournament of that series set a new benchmark for The Show-Me State with 1,292 total entries. The series as a whole drew a staggering 5,573 participants. The two will look to break more records when the nationally televised poker tour returns to St. Louis July 25-August 5.

The 12-day festival will offer multiple tournaments each day with buy-ins as low as $85. The marquee tournament will come in the form of a $1,650 Main Event which will be streamed live online and also filmed to air on national television. The Main Event will feature a $500,000 guaranteed prize pool, assuring that the winner will walk away with a six-figure payday.

In March, local attorney Bill Byrnes topped a field of 444 pros and amateurs in the Main Event to take home the $148,587 first-place prize and the coveted HPT title. In impressive fashion, Byrnes won his tournament entry on an investment of just $375 through a qualifier earlier in the week.

Poker enthusiasts interested in parlaying their way into the Main Event at a discounted rate can follow Byrnes' footsteps through HPT's signature qualifier system. There are a dozen Main Event satellites scattered throughout the schedule at $200 and $375 price points.

"Hollywood St. Louis is a great venue for poker," said HPT marketing manager Korey Stewart. "The staff definitely rose to the occasion for the March event. Players loved it and the turnout was huge. We're looking forward to doing it all over again."

The festivities at Hollywood St. Louis kick off today with a $350 no limit hold'em event. That two-day tournament has been tagged with a $200,000 guarantee. Among the other schedule highlights are a 7-Game Mix tournament and the increasingly popular Tag Team Switch event. A full lineup for the series can be found here.

"Hollywood Casino Hotel St. Louis is extremely excited to be hosting this world class poker event. Entrants and their guests will surely find our property to be the premier gaming destination in the market, with the best and most friendly team members around," says Hollywood Casino Hotel Vice President and General Manager Michael Jerlecki. "Having the most comfortable and best action, 20 table year-round live poker room in St. Louis aligns us perfectly with HPT for this and more tournaments to come."

With 20 poker tables, the non-smoking Poker Room at Hollywood St. Louis is the largest in the market. Put in four hours of live play to receive a $15 food voucher. Players raved about the property's expanded HPT area during the last series with custom lighting and 30 additional tables for tournament play.

For those players traveling in for the event, Hollywood St. Louis has arranged exclusive discounted room rates at the attached hotel starting at just $89 per night. There are a limited amount of rooms available at the discounted rate here.

HPT has awarded more than $100 million in prize pool money to date, including more than $11 million in the St. Louis market. The tour will add to that total when it returns to Hollywood Casino & Hotel St. Louis July 25-August 5. Visit HPTpoker.com for all the details.
