Bitcoin Shoots Above $8300, Litecoin Up 360% This Year

6:20 pm ET - Bitcoin has been on fire Thursday, climbing to $8329 and possibly higher.  This represented an almost 2% rise.  Up to 80% of funds in and out of online gambling sites focused on so-called "restricted" markets, including the USA, have been via Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

Then there is Litecoin, a cryptocurrency Bloomberg reports is the best performing so far this year.

From Bloomberg:

The rally can partly be attributed to Litecoin’s upcoming halving (also known as halvening), whereby the number of coins awarded to so-called miners is slashed by 50%. The idea is that a cut in supply will not only drive up its price but will also prevent an erosion of value. Miners currently receive 25 new Litecoins per block, but following the halving -- which is expected to fall on Aug. 6 -- they will receive 12.5. Read More Here

Colorado Casinos Took in Record Combined Revenue in 2018

9:51 am ET - DENVER (AP) – Colorado casinos saw an increase in combined 2018 revenue that set a record for the state.

The Denver Post reports that casinos in Black Hawk, Central City and Cripple Creek reaped combined revenue of $842.1 million last year.

The American Gaming Association says the figure is a 1.7% increase over the state’s $828 million take in 2017 and a nearly 13% increase over 2014.

The association’s 2019 edition of its “State of the States” roundup found 12 of 24 states with legalized commercial gambling enjoyed record revenues last year.

The association says the industry brought in an all-time national high of $41.7 billion in 2018, a 3.5% increase over 2017.

Officials say Colorado still lacks legal sports betting, which contributed significantly to the national increase.
