The move comes following a public outcry over the choice to run the horses in intense heat with temperatures expected to feel like 110 degrees during the mid afternoon hours.

At 2:30 pm ET, the temperature had reached 98 degrees with a "feels like" temperature around the 110 degree mark.

The temperature at the start of the Haskell Invitational was expected to be just below the 90 degree mark.
