Hot Baseball Betting Trends Monday May 7, 2021
Marlins @ Red Sox
The lowly 25-33 Marlins will start Pablo Lopez (1-3, 2.82) while the suprisingly good Red Sox put Nick Pivetta (6-1, 3.77) to the mound. Pivetta took his first loss of the season after allowing two runs in six innings and striking out nine against the Astros on Wednesday. Surpringly these two teams have the same exact futures odds to win the 2021 World Series at 55-1.
- Marlins are 2-14 in the last 16 meetings in Boston.
- Marlins are 6-20 in the last 26 meetings.
Take the Red Sox here as they are being offered at a decent -160 price. Not great, but well under the -190 threshold we seek to avoid.
Royals @ Angels
Two teams sitting around the .500 mark. Dylan Bundy (0-6, 6.49) will be seeking out his first win for the Angels. The Angels are a -125 favorite here.
- Royals are 5-11 in the last 16 meetings.
Cubs @ Padres
The Cubs are a few wins above the .500 mark while the Padres own a good 36-24 record. Chicago sends Adbert Alzolay (4-4, 3.62) to the mound versus Ryan Weathers (2-2, 2.06). San Diego is a -120 favorite in this one. There have only been three OVERs in the last 12 meetings.
Weathers struck out two and issued one free pass. This was the first time the 21-year-old southpaw had faced the Cubs, and it obviously didn’t go particularly well as he got stuck with the loss. Still, his ERA stands at 2.06 in 39 1/3 total innings pitched, and he also carries a solid 0.99 WHIP.
Adbert Alzolay is coming off two strong performances.
The total is 7.5 and one must be careful here as MLB total trends can be deceiving at times. While the OVER has not come through often in this series of late, 11 of the last 17 meetings have gone OVER 8.
