PITCHING MATCHUP: Astros RH Collin McHugh (2018: 6-2, 1.99 ERA) vs. Rays RH Tyler Glasnow (2018: 2-7, 4.27)
McHugh spent all of 2018 in the bullpen and appeared in 58 games, posting 94 strikeouts in 72 1/3 total innings. The 31-year-old, who earned Cy Young votes while going 19-7 with a 3.89 ERA in 2015, last worked as a full-time starter in 2017 and went 5-2 with a 3.55 ERA in 12 turns. McHugh made two appearances against Tampa Bay last season and did not allow a hit while striking out five in three scoreless innings.
Glasnow worked exclusively out of the bullpen for the Pittsburgh Pirates last season but moved into the rotation after being dealt to the Rays at the trade deadline. The 26-year-old former top prospect went 1-5 with a 4.20 ERA in 11 starts for Tampa Bay, striking out 64 in 55 2/3 total innings. Glasnow is making his first career appearance against Houston and is still looking for his first career win at Tropicana Field.
The UNDER is 9-1-1 in the last 11 meetings.
We are excited to bring you our first pick of the new season, Tampa Bay +105. Houston was the 4th most wagered on side in Major League Baseball. As such, the line move driving more action their way suggests to us the books are liking Tampa Bay's chances here. We have them at 57% with a concern over Glasnow's 2-7 record from last year but the recent team trending also favors Tampa Bay.
The Rays, incidentally, are 12-2 in their last 14 vs. American League West.
