How Much Will I Win If I Bet Shohei Ohtani to Win the 2021 Home Run Derby?

A $100 bet on Shohei Ohtani to win the 2021 Home Run Derby will pay out $250. Not too shabby.  He's the favorite to win this year's midway point event.

Ohtani was selected for his 32 homers hit so far this season.

Ohtani announced his intention to participate in the derby in June, becoming the first Japanese player in the contest.

"I always wanted to see a Japanese player participate in the derby, and it happens to be me," Ohtani said through his interpreter at the time. "It's really exciting for me."

Ohtani will make history as the first Major League Baseball player to pitch and hit in an All Star Game.

Manager Joe Madden explains how this process will take place.

"The conclusion is that he will pitch, but how it's going to happen has not been concluded," Maddon said. "There's different ways to do it, obviously. He could start the game or come in game-in-progress. And how often do you hit him? And don't forget he'll be in the Home Run Derby the day before. There's a lot going on there. But Shohei is into it. It's not like we're trying to push him into doing anything. We're just trying to figure out the best way to do it."
