Ivy League Cancels All Sports Until January 1st

Whie the Ivy League does not participate in the FCS Playoffs, a decision to postpone all sports programs, including football, until the earliest January 2021 could be a harbinger of things to come in college sports overall.

The conference hopes it can move fall sports to the spring, including football, per The Athletic's Dana O'Neil. CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein added on Wednesday that the Ivy League "will not entertain any sports being played until after January 1st."

The Ivy League made the decision on Wednesday.

Ahead of this anticipated move, the rest of the NCAA said they intend to move forward with fall sports.

"We all pay attention to it, just to see what's out there, but I think their model is a little different than our model when it comes to football," West Virginia athletic director Shane Lyons told ESPN. He also is the chair of the NCAA Division I Football Oversight Committee. "Is it definitely going to impact what we do? As a whole, not necessarily. We have to look at what we're doing with testing and protocols and the safety and well-being of our student-athletes, making sure we're doing the right thing from that aspect of it, to see if we can fill any type of season."

The Ivy League becomes the first Division I conference to reach such a decision on fall sports amid the coronavirus pandemic.
