This was the first of 20 races across seven Southern states between now and June 21. Darlington will host two more NASCAR races over the next three days.
None of the races are expected to feature spectators due to the current coronavirus pandemic that had shut down auto racing and most other sports for over two months. The Darlington 400 is the first NASCAR race to take place since that time.
When asked how he felt emerging from his No. 4 Ford after winning, he responded "Dead silence. It is weird just because there’s nobody up there.”
While nobody appeared in the stands at the Darlington Raceway, gamblers showed up in force online to place their wagers.
BetOnline reported its most bet on NASCAR race in the company's twenty-one-year history.
"Yup, bettors are hungry for action," BetOnline's head oddsmakers said via his Twitter account.
Despite Harvick being the winner, he was not listed among the company's top five potential liabilities.
They included: 1. Ryan Newman +4000 2. Clint Boyer +5000 3. Ryan Blaney +1400 4. Jimmie Johnson +2500 5. Tyler Reddick +8000.
