Cubs vs. Diamondbacks
PITCHING MATCHUP: Cubs RH Kyle Hendricks (1-3, 3.54 ERA) vs. Diamondbacks LH Robbie Ray (0-1, 3.95)
Hendricks has been trending in the right direction after a slow start, and is coming off his best performance of the season against Arizona on Friday. The 29-year-old struck out 11 and limited the Diamondbacks to three hits and two walks over seven scoreless innings. Hendricks is 3-1 with a 1.95 ERA in five starts against Arizona, including 2-0 with a 1.76 ERA in two outings at Chase Field.
Ray is winless in five starts despite allowing three runs or fewer in four of them. The 27-year-old recorded his first quality start of the season Sunday against the Cubs, allowing one run and four hits over six innings with four strikeouts. Ray is 1-1 with a 1.80 ERA in five starts against the Cubs.
Only eight of the last ten games played between these teams has gone OVER the current total of 9.5.
Seeing this, one would certainly think this game is going OVER. Not so fast!
8.5 to 9.5 is an aggressive move on the total.
The Cubs do not have one of the better bullpens in the league. They rank 6th from the bottom.
The OVER is 7-3 in the Cubs last 10 road games vs. a left-handed starter.Rodon rebounded from his first start with a pair of stellar outings on the road, holding the New York Yankees to two runs on three hits over six innings before shackling the Tigers last weekend with six innings of one-run ball on three hits. The No. 3 overall pick in the 2014 draft, he has permitted three hits or fewer in four of his five trips to the mound. Cabrera is 4-for-9 with a homer against Rodon, who is 2-2 with a 5.10 ERA versus Detroit with a staggering .476 batting average against.
The OVER is also 23-9-1 in Ray’s last 33 home starts.
Tigers vs. White Sox
PITCHING MATCHUP: Tigers LH Daniel Norris (1-0, 2.70 ERA) vs. White Sox LH Carlos Rodon (3-2, 2.89)
After making his first three appearances out of the bullpen, injuries forced Detroit to shift Norris to the starting rotation and he responded by striking out six and permitting two hits over five scoreless innings. He had a pair of rocky three-inning outings in which he was tagged for four runs on nine hits, including three homers. Norris improved to 2-0 record with a 2.05 ERA in six appearances (four starts) against the White Sox and has limited their current roster to a collective .151 batting average.
Rodon rebounded from his first start with a pair of stellar outings on the road, holding the New York Yankees to two runs on three hits over six innings before shackling the Tigers last weekend with six innings of one-run ball on three hits. The No. 3 overall pick in the 2014 draft, he has permitted three hits or fewer in four of his five trips to the mound. Cabrera is 4-for-9 with a homer against Rodon, who is 2-2 with a 5.10 ERA versus Detroit with a staggering .476 batting average against.
The total on this game moved from 8 to 9.
Seven of the last ten meetings have resulted in nine or more runs in this series.
Detroit has allowed five or more runs in six of their last ten games overall while the White Sox have scored five or more in six of their last ten games overall.
Seven of the last ten games the Tigers have played in have gone OVER the total.
The OVER is 5-0 in the Tigers last 5 road games vs. a left-handed starter.
This one has all the makings of an OVER play but we don't like how the White Sox are 9-26 in their last 35 home games vs. a left-handed starter and do not find the 9 an appealing number as three of the last ten games in this overall series have landed on this number.
