Sports Betting in Florida

Disney and the Seminoles have become unlikely bedfellows in an effort to prevent gambling expansion in the state of Florida.

They are running an aggressive campaign to push an amendment in the upcoming Midterm Elections that will have voters decide the fate of gambling in the Sunshine State.  The Seminoles and Disney want voters to vote YES.

So what's YES?

A "yes" vote supports this amendment to provide voters, through citizen-initiated ballot measures, with the exclusive right to decide whether to authorize casino gambling in Florida.

In Florida, a constitutional amendment requires a 60 percent vote of electors to be approved.

Apparently both backers believe the number of folks living in Florida wanting gambling expansion totals under 60%.

The Florida Legislature would not be permitted to vote on such expansion, and this includes sports betting.  This means it's going to be a while since the legislature will need to change current laws.

Sen. Bill Galvano (R-21) stated, "It’s game over for the Legislature if that (constitutional) amendment gets on the ballot and passes. And at that point, we’ll just be spectators in the world of gaming, which will essentially be a monopoly for the Seminole Tribe.

It's complicated!

Jon Rahm Surges at PGA Championship

Jon Rahm was going for his third major win at the 107th PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. He played great, proving he’s ready to be a top golfer again. After some ups and downs since joining LIV Golf in late 2023, Rahm shot an impressive 4-under 67 in the third round on Saturday. This strong round put him tied for fifth place, just five shots behind the leader, Scottie Scheffler.
