Quarterbacks have been named Most Valuable Player in 11 of the last 15 Super Bowls.

Playing in the NFC Championship for the first time in his career, Stafford and the Rams defeated the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 20–17.  This will be his first Super Bowl.  He will be playing the game at home.

Stafford completed 31 out of 45 passes for 337 yards, two passing touchdowns, and an interception in NFC Championship game.

For 12 long seasons, Stafford started for the lowly Lions.  Over that time frame, he led Detroit to three playoff appearances and zero postseason victories.

"Long time coming, you know? Spent a lot of years in this league and I've loved every minute of it," Stafford said of finally playing in a Super Bowl. "I feel blessed to be able to play in this league for as long as I have but I sure am happy for this opportunity for not only myself but, really, so many guys in that locker room that deserve this too. And that's what it is, it's an opportunity to go out there and win another one."
