New York Mets in Trouble as Ace Goes on 15-Day Injured List
As the 2022 Major League Baseball regular season begins to wind down, this is probably not the time to place a bet on the once surging New York Mets.
Max Scherzer on the 15-day injured list
Losers of their last three games, New York is clinging to a 50% win rate at least while trying to fight off the reigning World Series champion Atlanta Braves. Both led the National League East as of September 7. And the Mets still maintained one of the best records in the MLB.
Mets World Series futures holders are certainly worried over the latest news.
New York, currently listed with the fourth shortest odds to win the World Series at 5-1, just placed ace pitcher Max Scherzer on the 15-day injured list.
Mets manager Buck Showalter confirmed Wednesday that Scherzer still is experiencing irritation in his left side.
Scherzer, a three-time Cy Young Award winner, left his most recent start last Friday after only five innings because of fatigue in his left side.
Earlier in the week, Scherzer said he was doing fine.
Scherzer missed almost seven weeks earlier this season with a left oblique injury.
"It's kind of like everywhere except the oblique," he said of the current discomfort.
Scherzer is 9-4 with a 2.26 ERA in 20 starts in his first season with the Mets. He has struck out 153 in 127⅔ innings.
