Assuming wins against Colorado State (Michigan was a -30 point favorite), Hawaii (a team that got decimated by a Vanderbilt squad favored to win UNDER 3 regular season games in 2022) and UConn, the Maryland Terps should provide Michigan with the first big test of 2022 come September 24.

Michigan Wolverines vs. Maryland Terrapins (September 27)

The good news for Michigan is that they face Maryland at home.  The bad news is the 2022 Terps team is expected to be vastly improved.

Michigan (12) entered the season with a power rating of 84.84.  Maryland (69) was coming in at 70.18.  That gives us an early line of Wolverines -17

Like Michigan, Maryland was expected to come into this game at 3-0.

Maryland did pull off a winning season last year (7-6) following six straight losing seasons, so the future looks brighter.

Prior to last season, the Wolverines beat Maryland 38-7 win at College Park in 2019.  The Terps fared better last season with a 79-66, well within the anticipated line for this game.

“So we're looking forward to this year's version of the Maryland football family doing the necessary things, playing with the type of discipline, the type of toughness, the type of effort, as well as being committed and connected to take the next step that we need to take as a program," Terps head coach Mike Locksley said ahead of this season.  "We have high expectations for ourselves heading into the '22 season.

"It's probably the deepest football team that we've had since I've been back here at Maryland. On offense we have over 163 starts, 15 different guys that have started a game. On the defensive side of the ball, we have over 113 starts with 16 different guys having started a game. I'm a strong believer in continuity and leading to success."

As for Michigan, they finally managed to beat Ohio State last season.  It might be easy to look ahead towards Iowa on September 24, so if there is any bit of an overlay on this anticipated 17-point line, or even something over 14, you might want to back Maryland here.

A pair of super-talented edge rushers have departed and there are holes elsewhere for Michigan as they were entering the 2022 season.  A thin defensive line remained the biggest liability for the Wolverines.

Just days before the start of the 2022 season, Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh announced Olusegun Oluwatimi would be the starting center.
