The Milwaukee Bucks vs. Boston Celtics line for Wednesday's NBA game had the Bucks at -4 after opening at -2.5. Milwaukee was seeing almost all of the action on both the spread and moneyline early on. Hence the significant line move trending all the way up to -4.5. This game will be broadcast nationwide on TNT at 7:30 pm ET.
Milwaukee has the second shortest odds of winning the 2021 NBA Championship with a payout potential of $325 for every $100 bet.
Giannis Antetokounmpo is staying put. He just signed a five-year, $228 million supermax contract last week.
Milwaukee, the best team in the league at 56-17 during the 2019-20 regular season, retooled after getting bounced in five games by the Miami Heat during the second round of the playoffs. Added via trade during the offseason was former All-Star guard Jrue Holiday, and veterans Bobby Portis, Bryn Forbes, Torrey Craig and D.J. Augustin were brought in to bolster the bench.
From ESPN:
"For the past two seasons, the Bucks have been dominant but have failed to reach the Finals. Now, Milwaukee is confident it has a stronger supporting cast around the Greek Freak. The 26-year-old is entering the prime of his career, coming off a second straight MVP campaign and Defensive Player of the Year award. The Bucks hope former All-Star Jrue Holiday is the missing piece.
'"I feel like this year, honestly adding me, I feel like we do have this extra toughness," Holiday said during training camp. "Not saying that they didn't have it before, but I think with me here, with my attention to detail, with how I play defense, I really just think that we can get over that hump."'
The Celtics experienced one of the biggest losses of the offseason when forward Gordon Hayward was sent to the Charlotte Hornets as part of a sign-and-trade deal. Hayward, though oft-injured, averaged 17.5 points per game last season.
Boston added former Cleveland Cavaliers big man Tristan Thompson (12.0 points per game, 10.1 rebounds) to help fill the void, but more important could be the signing of veteran Jeff Teague as backcourt depth with All-Star guard Kemba Walker expected out until January after receiving a stem cell injection in his left knee.
"We're trying to do the best with the information that we have and get him as strong and healthy as he can be, so he's ready to make it through the year," said general manager Danny Ainge of Walker.
The Celtics have covered using today's spread in five of their last six games.
