Following the acquisition last month of former MVP James Harden, most expected the Brooklyn Nets to surge up the Eastern Conference standings behind their new Big Three. The Nets are making their move and recently finished off a perfect 5-0 road trip taking down the Lakers and Clippers in the process.  What’s more impressive is that they’ve been without Kevin Durant for the last week. They haven’t quite reached the pinnacle of the East mountain yet, but they can get closer by taking down Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks Saturday in primetime.  Bookmaker.eu offers a generous CASH welcome bonus (max CASH bonus $1600)

Odds Analysis

The Mavs are on their own heater heading into Saturday’s nationally televised matchup. They beat Boston on Tuesday night for their second straight win and sixth in seven games. They were catching 2.5-points on the closing line posting their second straight cover and third payout in four games. We’ve seen some wacky stuff with schedules this season and the Mavs just finished off an eight-game homestand. It’s been nearly a month since they last played a road game with the positive vibes from a win over Atlanta gone. The Mavs are 7-7 SU and 8-6 ATS in road games this season. The Nets are the hottest team in the NBA extending their winning streak to seven games by knocking off Sacramento 127-118 on Tuesday night. There was no letdown following their perfect jaunt through the Pacific Division. The Nets covered the spread in every game of their winning streak improving to 21-12 overall and 17-16 ATS.

Dallas Mavericks

Better late than never I guess for the Mavs. After their playoff run last season there were high expectations entering the season. Maybe I should say higher expectations. Either way, we didn’t figure the Mavs to be floundering below the .500 mark. They finally got back to the breakeven point with their win over Boston thanks to Doncic, who nailed a pair of go-ahead three-pointers in the last half minute of the game. Just last week after Luka dropped more than 40 in back-to-back games, Rick Carlisle said he needed to find more balance in the lineup.

In theory that’s nice and probably more coach speak than anything. Why would a coach take the ball out of his best player’s hands just so he could have balance? Winning games is what’s important and Doncic has willed the Mavs to several wins lately. He scored more than 40 points three times over the last seven games and is averaging nearly 41 points over that span. It would be ideal to have Kristaps Porzingis healthy and playing at a high level. He missed wins over Memphis and Boston and is averaging 20.5 points. But according to advanced stats, Porzingis has been one of the worst defensive players, which has allowed Dallas to cash the OVER in seven of their last nine games.

Brooklyn Nets

We’ve talked about the big three and why not. Teaming Harden, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving took the Nets up the NBA Championship odds board. The only problem is we haven’t seen much of the trio on the court at the same time. First it was Irving dealing with his own issues that kept him out of a few games after Harden joined the club. Now it’s Durant, whose sore hammy has him on the shelf for longer than initially projected. You would think the absence of Durant would impact the offense, but that hasn’t been the case. The Nets are averaging more points over the last five games than their league-leading season average.

The Nets showed they are more than the Big Three. Harden and Irving have done their share of damage with the other players chipping in. Bruce Brown scored 29 points against Sac and Joe Harris continues to light it up from deep. In 20 games since the blockbuster deal the Nets are 14-6 SU and 11-9 ATS. And the OVER is 15-5 in the same time span.

The Nets are getting contributions from a lot of people other than the three stars. And that makes them a scary team to play against. Right after the Nets settled the issue with their backcourt things started to happen. Harden has distributed nearly 12 assists per game while adding more than 25 points per night. They will be without KD for a few more games, but that’s given role players an opportunity shine and they have.

NBA Score Prediction: Nets 127, Mavericks 115

Sixers? Knicks? Who Can Challenge Boston in the East this Season?

As the new NBA season gets underway, there is most certainly a sense that the Boston Celtics are the team to beat once again. The 18-time champions really took an “if it’s not broken, don’t try to fix it” policy in the offseason, and it’s hard to argue with the tactic.
