There is no easing into the second half of the season for the Los Angeles Clippers, who look to snap a three-game losing streak when they host the Golden State Warriors in the second game of Thursday’s TNT doubleheader. Just a few weeks ago the Clips were battling with Utah and the Lakers for the top spot in the Western Conference. Now they are asking themselves what happened. The teams split a pair of games back in early January with the Dubs overcoming a 22-point second half deficit to forge the split.  Bookmaker.eu offers a generous welcome bonus (max bonus $1600)

Odds Analysis

The Warriors have been running in mud all season. They had gone the entire season without winning or losing more than two games in a row. That changed just before the All-Star break. The Dubs put together three straight victories taking down New York, Indiana and Charlotte covering the line each time. They promptly turned around and lost their next three going 0-3 ATS. They’ve been maddeningly inconsistent and their record proves that. They ended the first half at 19-18 SU and 18-19 ATS. The Clippers are searching for answers as well. They closed the first half with a five-game road trip that saw them lose four times, including the last three contests. Playing as a road favorite of at least 4.5 points against Boston and Washington, the Clips lost outright by a combined total of seven points. They went 0-3 ATS in the last three and 1-4 ATS on the road trip.

Golden State Warriors

The two game set against the Clippers back in January was a microcosm of the Warriors season. They lost the first game 108-101 with Steph Curry having an off-night shooting. He hit just 5 of 17 field goals and made only one three-pointer in six tries. Heck he even missed two of his four free throw attempts. Eric Paschall scored more points than Curry that day playing 15 fewer minutes. Two days later Curry was back in a groove dropping 38 points on 9 of 14 shooting from behind the arc and 13 of 24 overall. The Warriors used an explosive fourth quarter outscoring LA 34-18 to come away with the W.

Now it’s not so much about winning championships rather it’s about just making the playoffs. The play of Curry will go a long way toward determining that. Curry is fourth in the league in scoring at 29.7 points per game and his 169 made three-pointers are over 20 more than second place Damian Lillard. The Warriors visited Staples Center about two weeks ago and were humbled by the Lakers, 117-91. They’re hopeful things are different this time around. The offense went into a nosedive during the losing streak topping out at 106 points. The UNDER is 3-0 in the last three games and 6-1 across the last seven contests.

Los Angeles Clippers

Having a full roster for part of their recent road trip didn’t help the Clippers, which makes me wonder if they are a legitimate contender for the title. We’ll chalk up the losses to Milwaukee, Boston and Washington as a minor funk. There’s no way Kawhi Leonard and Paul George can let the club get too out of sync. Every team experiences turbulence over the course of a season some just do a better job of limiting the damage. That’s where experienced veterans come into play. We could call George and Leonard experienced veterans at this stage of their careers, and they just happen to be the best players.

No doubt the Clippers are happy to be home after a dreadful road trip. They were hammered by Memphis, 122-94, in the opener, lost a late lead to Milwaukee when they went scoreless over the final few minutes with Leonard and George missing on several opportunities to either tie the game or take the lead. Leonard was a late scratch in the five-point loss to Boston and George was held out of the Wizards game. Both should be ready to go on Thursday meaning trouble for the Warriors.

One team will end its three-game losing streak while the other will suffer its first four-game slide of the year. Both should be at full strength making things interesting. The Clippers do have a stronger bench and they are still trying to track down the leaders in the West. The recent funk dropped LA to fourth in the standings and closed the gap between the teams behind them. This is a game the Clips feel they should win and closing deals at home has been much easier than on the road.

NBA Score Prediction: Clippers 112, Warriors 105

Sixers? Knicks? Who Can Challenge Boston in the East this Season?

As the new NBA season gets underway, there is most certainly a sense that the Boston Celtics are the team to beat once again. The 18-time champions really took an “if it’s not broken, don’t try to fix it” policy in the offseason, and it’s hard to argue with the tactic.
